Mark Chapin
|
Assessor
Mark Chapin, Eagle County Assessor, was sworn into office in January, 2007.
Mark serves the constituents of Eagle County as the County Assessor and is responsible for instituting the Colorado State Statutes in the valuation of all real and personal property within the county. He has lived in Eagle County for 15 years. Mark’s appraisal and assessment career began in Durango, Colorado, in 1977 where he served as staff appraiser, chief appraiser and deputy assessor. He joined the staff of the Eagle County Assessor’s Office in 1991 as a commercial appraiser and later moved into the deputy assessor position. Mark has also successfully owned and operated his own real estate appraisal business and worked in real estate appraisal as a staff appraiser during his thirty-year career. This experience has afforded Mark the ability to effectively manage the Eagle County Assessor’s Office with the property owners, public and the county’s best interests in mind. Mark is a member of the International Association of Assessing Officers, the Appraisal Institute and the Colorado Assessor's Association.
Mark is a forty-one year resident of Colorado and resides in Eagle with his partner Susie. Mark and Susie parent a melded family with Sheena, Mark’s daughter and Meadow and Haley, Susie’s daughters, two horses, a goat, llama, dog and cat! Mark’s interests include mountain biking, backcountry hiking, skiing, whitewater rafting and rebuilding old cars. Mark is also active in volunteering with the 9 News Health Fair and annual river and highway cleanup in the Eagle Valley.

Teak Simonton

Clerk & Recorder
Teak J. Simonton, Eagle County Clerk and Recorder, took office in January of 2003. She serves as clerk to the Board, and is responsible for all aspects of the clerk and recorder operations at the three clerk and recorder office locations in the County. Teak moved to Vail after completing her Bachelor of Arts in International Relations at the University of Wisconsin in 1982, and began her career as a General Manager for a prominent ski equipment and clothing store.
During the 20 years that followed she gained extensive experience in personnel and financial management, customer service and computer applications, ultimately managing operations at 10 different ski shops in both Vail and Aspen. Teak’s management skills, combined with her long residency in the valley and her appreciation of the broad spectrum of people who live and work here, make her well suited to the public service environment at Eagle County. She is a member of the Colorado Association of Clerk and Recorders in addition to serving as the Treasurer for the Western District Clerk’s Association.
Out of the work place, Teak focuses on raising her two boys, Kyle and Sands, and she remains an active member of the Mount of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church, where she serves as treasurer to the council.

Joe Hoy
|
Sheriff
Joseph D. Hoy, Eagle County Sheriff, took office in January of 2003.
Sheriff Hoy's mission is to create a sense of safety and security among the communities and citizens of our county.
Sheriff Hoy was elected after serving Eagle County for 14 years as a Patrol Deputy and DARE officer. A native of New York, Sheriff Hoy moved to Colorado in 1983 after 15 years of military service. He was discharged from Fort Carson and briefly owned his own business, just long enough to meet his lovely wife Linda. Joe and Linda married and moved to Eagle County a few years later (or whichever came first).
In his early years Sheriff Hoy served as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army where he flew Huey Helicopters throughout his service in Vietnam, Germany, Denmark and numerous U.S. bases.
While always on call for emergencies, Sheriff Hoy is an avid cyclist and spends much of his time trying to better his own speed records. A proud grandfather, Joe can often be found hiking or going to the zoo with his grandchildren, Chase, Taylor Ann, and Kiana

Dan Corcoran

Surveyor
Dan Corcoran, Eagle County Surveyor, took office in January of 2003.
Dan works closely with the Community Development Department and reviews all plats submitted to Eagle County for compliance with the Eagle County Land Use Regulations and Colorado Land Surveying Statutes.
Dan moved to Eagle County in 1972. He worked five years as the surveying supervisor for Vail Associates’ Planning Department followed by two years with the Town of Vail Public Works Department. In 1979 Dan opened Eagle Valley Surveying which he owned and operated until January of 2004. In 2001 the Governor appointed Dan to serve on the Colorado Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Professional Land Surveyors. He currently serves as vice-chair of the Board and chairman of the Survey Quorum of the Board.
Dan has also served on the Vail Planning and Environmental Commission, the Vail Town Council, Berry Creek Metropolitan District and the Eagle County School Board.
Dan and his wife Julie live in Edwards. Their daughter Sara is a junior at Colorado State University and their son Kyle is a sophomore at the University of Montana.

Karen Sheaffer

Treasurer
Eagle County Treasurer Karen Sheaffer has over 20 years of experience in the Treasurer’s Office. She has been a Certified County Treasurer since 1999 and was awarded Treasurer of the Year by the Colorado County Treasurers’ Association in 1998 and again in 2000. As Treasurer, Karen is responsible for billing, collecting and distributing a tax roll of $130 million, as well as performing cash flow and banking services for Eagle County.
Karen serves on several professional organizations. She was elected Treasurer for the International Association of Clerks Recorders Election Officials and Treasurers (IACREOT ) and serves as President for the Colorado County Treasurers’ Association. Karen is a member of the Colorado Government Finance Officers of America (CGFOA) Elected to the COLOTRUST Board of Directors in 2002, she currently serves as Secretary of the Executive Board. COLOTRUST is the largest pool fund investment in the State of Colorado.
The Eagle County Treasurer’s Office has received seven national awards from the National Association of Counties (NACo), recognizing both customer service and improved office procedures. In July, 2005, Karen was awarded the prestigious Eagle Award by IACREOT for the Distraint Warrant Process used to collect delinquent personal and mobile home taxes. The Eagle Award is open to all members of IACREOT, and the winner is determined by the Directors-at-Large.
Karen has been a Colorado resident for 25 years and resides in Gypsum with her husband, Jim. Her two sons are also Colorado residents
