Eagle Vail Trail Construction Update

Contact: Ellie Caryl, ECO Trails Program Manager, 970-328-3523 or ellie.caryl@eaglecounty.us

Work continues on the Eagle Vail Trail construction between Stone Creek Road and the I-70 Eagle Vail exit on the north side of Highway 6. The outside westbound lane and shoulder of Highway 6 will continue to be closed during the length of the construction.

The contractor, B&B Excavating, and their subcontractor, Yenter, are working on the trail retaining walls below Highway 6 that comprise the majority of the project activity. Work is also underway on the west end of the project adjacent to the Eagle Vail golf course to create a trail platform using material from the wall excavation.

The contractor is required to finish the project by November 1, 2012. Some delays have been encountered due to a utility conflict and rain events. Work will not take place on Thursday, August 23 to facilitate the Pro-Challenge bicycle race on Highway 6. Due to these delays, some Saturday work will be necessary to complete the project on schedule. However, work will not occur on Labor Day weekend, starting at noon on Friday, August 30.

The patience of the traveling public, and Eagle Vail residents and businesses in particular, is greatly appreciated as the work continues. The work zone traffic control will be reduced as the work progress allows.

The goal of the project is to connect the Eagle Vail community as well as create another link in the valley wide biking and walking trail system. This section of trail will also feature views of the Eagle Vail golf course and the Eagle River.
