Bike to Work Day is Wednesday, June 28

Contact: Kevin Sharkey, ECO Trails Program Manager, 970-328-3523, Kevin.Sharkey@eaglecounty.us

June 15, 2017 – Wednesday, June 28 is Colorado Bike to Work Day, and Eagle County is rewarding residents who leave the car at home and bike, ride or walk to work.

The ECO Trails Committee, along with bike shops, local businesses and governmental entities are supporting this statewide event by hosting rest stops with refreshments and giveaways for those who decide to go green on their commute.

Volunteers will be hosting rest stops between 7 and 9 a.m. at:

  • Mayor's Park in Vail
  • Malin Trail Bridge in Dowd Junction
  • Bell Bridge in Minturn
  • Highway 6 Roundabout in Avon
  • Highway 6 Intersection in Edwards
  • Town Hall in Eagle, and
  • Eagle Valley High School in Gypsum.

The Roaring Fork Transit Authority (RFTA) will also be stationed at the Carbondale Park and Ride at Highway 133 and Village Road from 7 to 9 a.m. with coffee and snacks for commuters.

New this year, Eagle County residents are encouraged to get “Actively Green” and take the Climate Action Pledge, which seeks to reduce air pollution from homes, offices, vehicles and garbage cans. Biking to work, trading inefficient lightbulbs for LEDS, or composting supports personal health, the economy and the environment, as well as the communitywide goal of cutting climate pollution in Eagle County 25 percent by 2025.

Eagle County residents can take the pledge at www.eaglecounty.us/CAP. Those who take the pledge before 4 p.m. on June 28 will be entered to win prizes including an Energy Smart home energy assessment, LED lighting, and a QuietKat FatKat electric bike.

A celebration and an announcement of prize winners will take place at 5 p.m. June 28 at the Bonfire Brewery in Eagle. Those entered in the drawing do not need to be present to win.
