Avon to Eagle-Vail trail receives grant funding

Contact: Ellie Caryl, ECO Trails Program Manager, 328-3523, ellie.caryl@eaglecounty.us

The Town of Avon and the ECO Trails program of Eagle County were recently awarded a $355,000 grant from the CDOT Transportation Enhancement grant program. The funds will be used for construction of the regional Eagle Valley trail segment from Avon Road to Post Boulevard. The grant was approved by a consortium of five counties working together as the Intermountain Transportation Planning Region to expand and improve the highway and multi-modal transportation systems in Lake, Garfield, Summit, Pitkin and Eagle counties.

“There has been a noticeable increase in the number of people using the shoulder of the highway. This project will provide a designated non-motorized transportation and recreation route separated from the highway.” said Justin Hildreth, Town of Avon Engineer.

The funds for construction of the Avon Road to Post Boulevard trail segment will be available in July 2011. The ECO Trails Committee, ECO Board and Town of Avon recently approved matching funds for the project. Additional grant funds are being pursued for subsequent trail phases to connect into Avon and eastward to the Eagle-Vail commercial area.
