Within Eagle County government we employ a team approach across many departments to ensure that our organization is environmentally aware and active in preservation of our natural resources while ensuring the economic well-being of the citizens of Eagle County.
Sustainable Community shall be defined as: a community which fosters economic opportunity and social capital while protecting and restoring the natural environment upon which people and economies depend.
As a matter of vision and mission, the Board of County Commissioners has offered the following statements:

Eagle County holds the preservation and enhancement of the natural environment as a top priority to ensure the health, safety, welfare, and economic well-being of its citizens.
Mission
Eagle County will be a leader among mountain communities through innovative sustainability initiatives. We are committed to continuously improving our environmental performance by reducing greenhouse gas emissions; preventing pollution; promoting clean, renewable energy; and by conducting periodic internal audits and management reviews of our environmental objectives and targets to assure our actions are consistent with our policies and beyond compliance with all applicable environmental regulations.
Our goal is to reduce communitywide greenhouse gases by 2020 to demonstrate cost savings, job creation, and economic development realized through energy efficiency and renewable energy.
