Eagle County has adopted the Sustainable Community Index (SCI) as a review tool for new development applications. The SCI promotes mixed use, transit-oriented, new urbanist, form-based, pedestrian- and environmentally-friendly, clustered, infill development, and is a required finding for new development proposals reviewed by the Board of County Commissioners, including PUDs, zone changes, final plats, subdivisions, and major special use permits. The SCI was recently recognized by the American Planning Association Colorado Chapter’s Sustainability Award in 2009, and is an integral part of Eagle County's Sustainable Communities Plan.
