Overview

Megan's law is named after 7-year-old Megan Kanka, a New Jersey girl who was raped and killed by a known child molester who moved across the street from the family without their knowledge. Megan's law authorizes law enforcement to release to public information about registered sex offenders. The law is not intended to punish the offender.

Each law enforcement agency within Eagle County registers and monitors the sex offenders in their respective jurisdiction.  The sheriff's office publishes and maintains the sex offender Web site for all local law enforcement agencies. For additional information on sex offenders in your neighborhood, contact your local police department or sheriff.
