Contact; Jessie Mosher, Public Information Officer, Jessie.mosher@eaglecounty.us, 970-328-8540

June 9, 2015 - The Office of Emergency Management, Eagle County Sheriff’s Office, Town of Gypsum and other first response agencies will be participating in a full-scale emergency preparedness/response exercise on Saturday June 13, 2015. Participating agencies will be exercising their ability to respond to a mock scenario revolving around a wildfire in the Sky Legend and Red Hill Residential areas of Gypsum, Colo. The exercise will create the need for evacuations; responders will be going door-to-door in those areas and citizens throughout the area can expect to receive test emergency alert messaging via ECAlert. Eagle County Sheriff’s Office Twitter account and Facebook page will also be sending test messages during the exercise.

Several local emergency responders will participate in the exercise. Part of the exercise will include a Wildfire Preparedness & Education Fair at the Eagle Valley High School from 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m on Saturday, June 13th, where information on wildfire readiness programs will be available. Lunch will be served to individuals participating in the Wildfire Preparedness & Education Fair at the Eagle Valley High School. Members of the public will also have the opportunity to participate in a simulated community meeting regarding wildfire operations and evacuations.

This exercise was designed to test real-time emergency response and coordination between multiple agencies. An emphasis will be placed on evacuation, public warning and public information, resource ordering and incident management. Communications protocols between participating agencies will be tested during this exercise. Uniformed personnel will be going door-to-door on Saturday, notifying residents about evacuation procedures. Evacuees will be sent to a mock evacuee center at the Eagle Valley High School.
