Work Release Program Application

The purpose of the Work Release Program is to allow non-violent, misdemeanor and low-level felony offenders to serve their jail time in a manner that is productive for the offender and the community. In this program, offenders are allowed to leave the jail to go to work for up to 12 hours each day, 5-6 days per week. All time spent away from the jail must be pre-approved based on verification of schedules by the employer.

A Global Positioning System [GPS] ankle monitor is used to ensure compliance with the program rules at no additional cost. The coordination of the Work Release Program is handled by the Detention Transport/Extradition Coordinator who will determine the amount to be paid and a payment schedule will be set up at the time of acceptance into the program. These fees help to reduce the expense of housing offenders and ultimately reduce the burden on the taxpayers.

Before you submit your application for the Work Release Program, you must telephone or email the Transport/Extradition Coordinator to make an appointment for an orientation at either 970-328-8574 or jill.baron@eaglecounty.us. This orientation must occur at least 72 hours prior to the start of your sentence and please bring copies of all of the paperwork outlined in the application.

The Judge must grant authorization to apply to the Work Release Program on the sentencing order. However, the Jail Administrator retains the discretion to determine whether the offender will actually be placed in the Work Release Program. You must be sentenced to at least 10 days to be eligible for work release. The Transport/Extradition Coordinator will not place an individual on work release if that offender is precluded from doing so by the court or has certain felonies, a history of introduction of contraband or sex assault charges or history.

The Eagle County Work Release Program is a very strict program and requires stringent criteria to be met to remain in the program. Not all applicants are accepted and it is not automatic. There is limited space and a waiting list at times.
