Eagle County Public Health offers back-to-school immunization clinics

Contact: Heather Gilmartin, Public Health Nurse at 970-748-2015 or Heather.Gilmartin@eaglecounty.us

Aug. 2, 2012 – Eagle County Public Health has joined with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment to help get children vaccinated before they start school. A $17,500 grant will allow Eagle County Public Health to increase vaccination opportunities for local families.

“Unnecessary illness due to a preventable disease may result in a child missing school, a class trip, or an afterschool activity. When we immunize our children against infectious diseases we give them the opportunity to learn and grow in a healthy environment,” said Becky Larson, epidemiologist for Eagle County.

According to Public Health officials, immunizations are critical for keeping vaccine preventable diseases out of our community. “Ensuring your child is up-to-date on their immunizations before the first day of school is one of the best ways to protect the health of your child, their classmates, and the community,” said Theresa Carey, Eagle County public health nurse.

All children are required to be up-to-date on their immunizations before the first day of school, per Colorado law. Elementary, middle and high-school students all have required immunizations, though they differ by age.

Starting the week of Aug. 13, Eagle County’s Public Health will be offering walk-in clinics for school immunizations at all three of its locations. Cost is $14 per immunization for those 18 and younger. No one will be turned away based on financial need. Parents are asked to bring their child’s immunization records to the clinic. The clinic schedule is as follows:

• Avon, 100 W. Beaver Creek Blvd., Suite 107
Aug. 13 through Aug. 16 from 1 – 4:30 p.m.
Aug. 17 from 8:30 a.m. – noon

• Eagle, 551 Broadway
Aug. 13 through Aug. 16 from 1 – 4:30 p.m.
Aug. 17 from 8:30 a.m. – noon

• El Jebel, 0020 Eagle County Drive, Suite E
Aug. 24 from 10 a.m. - noon
Aug. 24 from 1 – 4 p.m.
