Largest Zucchini Contest

This is a special class just for fun that will be judged separately from the other garden classes on Monday, July 25, 2011 at the Eagle River Center.

General Rules: Contestants need to register zucchinis between noon and 6 p.m. Bring your biggest zucchini to the Eagle River Center where it will be judged by weight. This class will be judged separately from the classes in the garden department.

1st place: Class champion ribbon.
2nd place: Reserve class champion ribbon.
3rd place: Blue ribbon.
4th place: Red ribbon.
5th place: White ribbon.
All participants will be awarded a participation ribbon.  

Old Fashioned Fun Cookie Jar and Cookie Contest  

This contest for those of all ages who love to bake and create will be held on Wednesday, July 27, 2011.
General Rules: Registration is from 6 to 6:45 p.m. Your cookie jar should be a minimum of one-half gallon capacity with a wide mouth. The container and decorations should be made of recycled, food safe materials. The container must be filled with a minimum of 1 dozen homemade cookies.  In addition to the cookie jar, place 3 cookies on a paper plate and cover with a sealable plastic bag so that the judges may have easy access to the cookies for judging. Please do not use any copyrighted characters or slogans.

The judging will take place at 7 p.m. Your entries will be judged 50 percent on creativity of the container and the use of recycled products and easy access. The other 50 percent will be judged on flavor, texture and appearance of cookies.

Cookies will be removed from the jar and sold at the bake sale. The cookie jars will remain on display at the Eagle River Center until Sunday, July 31, 2011. Cookie Jars that are not picked up will be thrown away.

The 2011 Cookie Jar Contest Winner  will receive a 4-H Ceramic Cookie Jar donated by the Eagle County CSU Extension office located at 441 Broadway in Eagle, Colorado.

     High Altitude Artisan Bread Bake-off

This contest is Thursday, July 28, 2011 and is open to all classes of breads including quick bread, yeast bread or starter bread.

General Rules: Register your bread between 4 p.m. - 6:15 p.m.on Thursday, July 28, 2011 at the Eagle River Center. Breads will be judged on a point system and awards are based on: difficulty, taste, crust, shape, and texture. All breads must be homemade by hand. No bread machines.Your recipes must be included with each entry.  Place bread in a paper bag or on a paper plate and cover with a sealable plastic bag or foil so that the judges may have easy access to the bread for judging.  All entries may be sampled by the general public after the judging.

Judging will take place at 6:30 p.m.

The winning contestant will receive a high end bread knife donated by Red Canyon Café  


Pretty Baby Contest  

The Pretty Baby Contest will be in the Eagle River Center Exhibit Hall at 10 a.m. on  Saturday, July 30, 2011.
General Rules: Registration is at 9 a.m. The contest is open to all babies from newborn to 3 years. Contestants can enter in all six categories, but can only win once. Costume changes are allowed for each category.

The six categories are:
1. Best “Dressed for the Fair & Rodeo” costume
2. Looks Most like Mom/Pop
3. Best Beach Wear Ensemble
4. Best Hairdo
5. Prettiest Smile in Eagle County
6. Most Patriotic

Eagle County Fair & Rodeo will donate a $50 savings bond (upon maturity) to the winner in each category.

People's Choice Salsa Tasting Contest

 

Locals will decide who makes the best salsa in the county on Saturday, July 30, at 3:30 p.m. Enter your fresh homemade salsa at the Eagle River Center on Saturday, July 30 between 1 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. Annie Egan, Superintendent.

Categories: Only one category entry is allowed.
1. Best Professional
2. Best Amateur
3. Best Hot Salsa

General Rules: Enter Three, 1-quart jars of your best, freshly made salsa! The salsa must have been made within 72 hours of entry.  All entries will be inspected prior to the contest.

Include a list of ingredients, name, address and phone number with containers. Please label salsa mild or hot. No prepared spice mixes of salsa may be entered. All entries must be entirely homemade. Use of individual canned ingredients is acceptable, i.e.canned tomatoes.

Prizes will be awarded. Salsa contest will take place at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 30, 2011.

The winner of the restaurant division will receive a plaque to display in their restaurant. Separate prizes will be given to the Amateur Winner and Best Hot Salsa Winner. Judging is based upon people’s choice.
