Mission
Eagle County will be a leader among mountain communities through innovative sustainability initiatives. We are committed to continuously improving our environmental performance by reducing greenhouse gas emissions; preventing pollution; promoting clean, renewable energy; and by conducting periodic internal audits and management reviews of our environmental objectives and targets to assure our actions are consistent with our policies and beyond compliance with all applicable environmental regulations.
Our goal is to reduce communitywide greenhouse gases by 2020 to demonstrate cost savings, job creation, and economic development realized through energy efficiency and renewable energy. Energy Smart Loan Program
In November 2009 voters approved Referendum 1A which allows Eagle County to issue property-assessed clean energy (PACE) financing to property owners who choose to participate in the program. The program officially launched on Monday May 10th, 2010.
Eco-Build
Eagle County’s Efficient Building Code (Eco-Build) promotes the construction of durable, safe, energy efficient, environmentally friendly residential and commercial buildings in Eagle County. Using then 2009 IECC as a baseline, the points-based building codes are required for all new construction or additions over 50% of existing floor area.
Rebates
Eagle County offers rebates up to $4000 per household for solar photovoltaic and solar thermal systems constructed in Eagle County (towns are included). Also is information regarding various insulation rebates, energy star appliances, and energy efficient boilers or furnaces.
Sustainable Community Index
Eagle County has adopted the Sustainable Community Index (SCI) as a review tool for new development applications. The SCI promotes mixed use, transit-oriented, new urbanist, form-based, pedestrian- and environmentally-friendly, clustered, infill development, and is a required finding for new development proposals reviewed by the Board of County Commissioners.
