Eagle County Airport Interchange:  CDOT has completed the design for the Eagle County Airport Interchange and Connector Road Project and is in the final stage of right-of-way acquisition.  The project will include a new I-70 interchange between the towns of Eagle and Gypsum.  The new 4-lane bridge roadway will connect to Cooley Mesa Road at the east end of the airport.  CDOT and Eagle County submitted a joint request for $62,500,000 under ARRA TIGER, TIGER II and TIGER III Grants.  Project was not selected for TIGER III grant funding.

US Hwy 6 Shoulder Widening:  This project was developed as a safety improvement for all users of Hwy 6 in combination with the typical maintenance of the highway.  The plan is to add paved shoulders along 12 miles of Hwy 6 between Eagle and Edwards and cover the entire paved surface with an asphalt overlay.

The first two phases of this project have been completed, and the public response has been very appreciative of the enhanced safety along Highway 6.  Bids for the third and final phase were opened this past December, and Elam Construction was was awarded the construction contract.  Construction will begin in May, 2012, although an actual start date has not been set and is anticipated to take about 12 weeks.

State Hwy 82/JW Drive Intersection Improvements:  Engineering received a Federal Hazard Elimination Grant for this intersection that is funded for Fiscal Year 2011. The project consists of the addition of left turn acceleration lanes for both upvalley and downvalley SH82 directions. CDOT is also constructing a wildlife fence in the vicinity to protect wildlife and motorists from animal collisions. CDOT is currently designing the projects, and anticipate to begin construction in the summer of 2012.

Cedar Drive Safety Improvements, Basalt Area: Engineering received a Federal Hazard Elimination Grant for portions of Cedar Drive in the Basalt area that is funded for Fiscal Year 2011 to improve numerous safety concerns with the road.
The local property owners have formed a Local Improvement District (LID) to secure funding. We are currently working with CDOT in completion of the grant funding agreement, and anticipate to have project design underway in the fall of 2012, with construction commencing in the summer of 2013.

Stone Creek Mitigation Grant: Engineering has worked with the Eagle-Vail community on a mitigation grant to provide better protection from flooding within the community. The grant is funded through FEMA's Flood Mitigation Assistance program with Colorado Division of Local Affairs as a co-applicant partner. The grant seeks to remove approximately 12 structures from the High Risk Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA) and over 50 structures from a Moderate Risk Shaded Zone X. The grant is for a total of $240,000, of which $30,000 is funded by the Eagle-Vail Metropolitan District and Property Owner's Association, and $30,000 is from Eagle County's Capital Improvements Program Funding.

Funding has been programmed for the project, and design will be underway in the spring of 2012, with construction set to begin in fall 2012 with completion in late fall 2012. Construction will not interefere with the golf season, and will work around this timeframe to minimize impact to the Eagle-Vail Golf Course.

Cottonwood Pass Road: Improve the directional and safety signage on this often one lane Eagle to Roaring Fork Valley gravel road.

Colorado River Road:  Engineering has surveyed the alignment of the Colorado River Road to create right-of-way maps. We are currently reviewing the maps with our Road and Bridge department to finalize them. Once the map is completed the Engineering Department will meet with the BLM and get their comments and agreement for future use and alignments.
