In Colorado, child support is considered a right of the child and both parents have a duty to provide child support until the child is emancipated. Eagle County's Child Support Services Program ensures that children’s rights are upheld by helping families:
- Establish paternity.
- Locate absent parents, using a variety of state and federal databases.
- Establish child support.
◦ Amounts are established based on the income of both parents.
◦ Most child support is established directly with absent parents.
◦ Court involvement to establish child support is pursued when there are special issues in question.
- Collect child support.
You may request an application by calling 970-328-8840. You can also download the application or visit the Colorado Child Support Services website to find out if you can apply online.
Any parent may apply for services on behalf of their children. The standard one-time fee for child support enforcement services is $20. A parent may request that the fee be waived when it presents a financial hardship.
Please note that Pitkin County residents should visit the Garfield County offices for Child Support Enforcement Assistance.
