Coroner identifies victim found in Colorado River

Eagle County Coroner Kara Bettis has confirmed the identity of the body found earlier today (6/20) in the Colorado River as 31-year-old Sterling Prevost of Denver. The man was reported as having fallen into the water on Sunday morning. Emergency responders found Prevost at approximately 9:45 a.m. this morning, about two-and-a-half miles from where he was last seen.

Prevost was spotted by the crew of a Colorado National Guard helicopter assisting with the search from the High Altitude Army National Guard Aviation Training Site (HAATS), which is based at the Eagle County Regional Airport in Gypsum. An autopsy on the victim is scheduled for tomorrow. The cause and manner of death will not be known until the procedure is complete.

Assisting agencies included the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office, Vail Mountain Rescue, Greater Eagle Fire Protection District, Gypsum Fire Protection District, Rock Creek Fire, Salvation Army, Bureau of Land Management, TriState Care Flight, Summit County Dive Team, the Colorado Army National Guard, Alpine Rescue Team and the Eagle County Ambulance District.
