Election reminders from the Eagle County Clerk & Recorder

Teak Simonton,Eagle County Clerk & Recorder, 970-328-8728, teak.simonton@eaglcounty.us

Oct. 20, 2016 - Election Day is Nov. 8 and all eligible voters should have received their mail ballots. This is the first mail ballot presidential election in Colorado.  Voters are reminded to affix 68 cents postage to their ballots if they choose to return them by mail. If a ballot indicates the voter is required to include a copy of his or her identification, additional postage may be needed.

Voters who have received a ballot and then subsequently change their residential address are cautioned not to vote the original ballot, which could include districts and issues for their previous address. Once a voter address is updated, the original ballot is voided and a new ballot style is generated and mailed.  This ballot, based on the new residential address, is the only ballot that should be voted and returned. Voters have until Oct. 31 to request a new ballot by mail.

Voter Service and Polling Centers providing voter registration services, replacement ballots, ballot drop boxes and disabled access voting machines re located at Clerk & Recorder offices in Avon at 100 West Beaver Creek Blvd., in Eagle at 500 Broadway, and in El Jebel at 0020 Eagle County Dr. These centers are open on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; on Saturday, Oct. 29 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and on Election Day from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

In addition, a Voter Service and Polling Center will be open in the Grand View Room at the Lionshead parking structure in Vail on Friday, Nov. 4 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; on Saturday, Nov. 5 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; on Monday, Nov. 7 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and on Election Day from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Additionally, there are four new 24-hour ballot drop boxes with lighting and video surveillance outside of Clerk & Recorder offices in Avon, Eagle and El Jebel and at the Town of Basalt municipal offices.

Ballots must be returned to the Eagle County Clerk & Recorder no later than 7 p.m. on Nov. 8 in order to be counted.  Ballots received after that time, even with postmarks on or before Nov. 8, cannot be counted per state law.
