Election canvass underway

Contact: Teak Simonton, Clerk & Recorder at 970-328-8728 or teak.simonton@eaglecounty.us.

Results from the Nov. 6 General Election are being reviewed as the canvass board, which consists of members of the Democratic and Republican parties as well as the Clerk & Recorder, meets this week and next. Per state law, the canvass board reviews processes, ensures the number of votes cast does not exceed the votes counted, and conducts a hand count random audit of all races and issues.

In addition, about 260 provisional ballots and approximately 200 deficient mail-ballot envelopes must be reviewed. Voters have until Nov. 14 to correct deficiencies such as envelopes with signatures that don’t match voter records, or mail ballots returned without signatures. Other ballots, such as those received at other county clerk's offices by 7 p.m. Nov. 6 and overseas military ballots that arrive within eight days of the election, will also be counted if determined valid.

Certified election results must be reported to the state no later than 5 p.m. Nov. 23.
