If your original title has been lost, destroyed, mutilated or is no longer legible, you must apply for a duplicate title.
To apply in person
- Come into one of the Clerk & Recorder’s offices with your identification. Often we can print the title immediately.
- Only the owner of record or the lienholder of record can apply for a duplicate title. If you are not the owner, a motor vehicle power of attorney (DR2175) signed by the owner(s) is required.
- If there are multiple owners on the title, one of the owners can obtain a duplicate title.
- If our record indicates there is a lienholder, we are required to mail the title to the lienholder.
- Cost for a duplicate title is $8.20
- Identification is required to obtain a duplicate title
- If your title was issued by another state, please contact that state.
To apply by mail
- Use the DR 2539A Duplicate Title Request and Receipt form to obtain a duplicate title from the Colorado Motor Vehicle Division.
- The fee for a duplicate title is $8.20.
- Please submit two copies of the form to the Colorado Department of Revenue at the address on the form.
Lost Registration
- If you have lost, misplaced or destroyed your registration, you can obtain a duplicate from our office either in person or by mail.
- You must provide us with the license plate number and vehicle information.
- Cost for a duplicate registration is $2.20.
- If you have lost the registration and stickers, the cost for replacement registration and tabs is $2.37.
