Small plane crashes on approach into EGE

A private plane crashed just off the east side of runway at the Eagle County Regional Airport at approximately 3 p.m. this afternoon (6/28). Both people on board were transported from the scene by ambulance.

According to witnesses, the 1964 Piper Comanche aircraft appeared to come up short on its approach. The plane crashed about 750 feet from the runway.

Airport operations were temporarily suspended while emergency personnel responded to the crash. All operations have since resumed.

The aircraft involved in today’s crash is registered in California. Eagle County Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting, Greater Eagle Fire Protection District, Gypsum Fire Protection District, Eagle County Paramedic Services and Eagle County Sheriff’s Office responded to the incident. An investigation will be conducted by the Federal Aviation Administration.
