Private aircraft crashes east of Eagle County Regional Airport

June 30, 2017 – A private aircraft crashed just east of the Eagle County Regional Airport (EGE) at approximately 12:30 p.m. Friday afternoon (6/30). The pilot was the only person on board and is uninjured.

According to the pilot, he was cleared for final approach and was executing a “base turn” when he lost his engine. After determining he couldn’t make the runway, the pilot declared an emergency and landed on McGregor Drive. During the emergency landing, the aircraft clipped a light pole and sheared of the left wing of the plane.

The aircraft is a 6-person Cessna Centurion. It was based in Telluride and was en route to EGE from Montrose.

Responding agencies included Eagle County Airport ARFF, Gypsum Fire Protection District, Greater Eagle Fire Protection District, Eagle County Paramedic Services, the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office and Vail Public Safety Communications.
