Eagle County is pleased to announce Greg Phillips has accepted the position of aviation director for Eagle County Regional Airport (EGE). He will begin his new position on Jan. 30, 2012.

Phillips comes to the county from East Wenatchee, Wash., where he was the airport director for Pangborn Memorial Airport. He holds an engineering degree from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and served as a helicopter pilot and Army Ranger. He has also completed advanced education in leadership and employee development.

After leaving the military, Phillips worked as an engineering project manager for Boeing. He then assumed a position as an engineer and project manager in the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airports Division, where he oversaw public airport construction and grant funding for all of the public airports in Oregon. Phillips next served as the deputy program manager for the FAA project team responsible for the design and construction of Denver International Airport.

In 2004, he became the Bend Municipal Airport manager and in 2006 was named Oregon State Airport Manager of the Year. Phillips then served as the deputy director of the Missoula International Airport prior to assuming his position at Pangborn in August 2010.

“Given his background and experience, we are extremely excited to have Greg as a team member,” said County Manager Keith Montag. “I know he will be successful working with the community and all airport users to enhance EGE as a regional and statewide amenity,” he said.

In his new role, Phillips will be responsible for the oversight of the terminal, operations, maintenance, compliance, safety and administrative activities of the airport. He is charged with providing a strategic vision for EGE, developing key relationships in the aviation industry and designing marketing strategies. Phillips will also focus on furthering the FAA-required master planning process currently underway.

The position has been open since April. Following a 5-month internal effort to fill the vacancy, the county hired ADK Executive Search to assist in the search for the new director. For information on Eagle County job openings, visit www.eaglecounty.us/HR
